| GSP Post 31 (Valdosta) was recognized by MADD Georgia as the Georgia State Patrol Post of the Year at the 8th Annual Golden Shield Honor Awards Banquet in Atlanta on March 22, 2012. The Post 31 members were also recognized as "DUI Heroes" for their 531 DUI arrests in 2011. |
Mission
The Governor's Office of Highway Safety, in cooperation with state and local law enforcement agencies, has organized regional Traffic Enforcement Networks around the State of Georgia.
The Southern Regional Traffic Enforcement Network (SRTEN) is one of the sixteen regional traffic enforcement networks currently servicing all 159 counties in Georgia.
The regional networks are open to all sworn law enforcement officers and prosecutors and are designed to enhance traffic enforcement activities through networking, training and legislation. The networks serve as a catalyst for traffic enforcement officers to voice their concerns and share ideas with their counterparts from other agencies in their region.
Guest speakers frequently attend monthly network meetings and share their thoughts, experiences, and opinions with the network members. These guest speakers have included state and municipal court judges, prosecutors, legislators, and MADD representatives.
Meetings/Pictures
Each month, SRTEN holds a meeting to allow the law enforcement representatives from the 12-county area to come together and exchange ideas and receive training in traffic-related subjects. A meal is usually served as a part of the meeting, and a roadcheck is also conducted.

During the May 2010 SRTEN meeting, Ms. Jana Mullis was a special guest speaker. Ms. Mullis had been stopped in Atkinson County as a "superspeeder." During her court appearance, the judge sentenced her to write a 1,000 word essay on "Teen Driving." In addition, Ms. Mullis was required to read a part of her essay during the May SRTEN meeting. The judge was also present at the meeting and asked that Ms. Mullis' essay be published on this site. |
